With flat-nosed pliers, round-nosed pliers, wire cutters and a pen, area jewelry enthusiasts learned how to craft beads and wire Saturday into handmade designs.

Killeen resident Beth Driver got into the hobby when a friend signed her up for a class. She previously struggled to put ends together when crafting together a necklace.

“It was the best thing I ever did for myself,” Driver said. “I think I come here just as much for the camaraderie as anything else.”

Fellow bead hobbyist Esther King found the pastime when she visited Bead Bistro Gourmet Beadery to purchase a gift certificate for her granddaughter.  read more

St. Jean, from Myrtle Beach, S.C., is the author of “Metal Magic — How to Etch, Pierce, Enamel and Set Striking Jewelry” and “Mixed Metal Mania — Solder, rivet, hammer and wire exceptional jewelry.” She brought her knowledge and enthusiasm to Killeen to teach local jewelry-makers how to make unique pieces of jewelry using pewter.

Dale Koebnick, Bead Bistro owner, said when she opened her store more than two years ago, she knew she wanted to bring in authors and jewelry designers to teach classes. read more

Happy Spring!
May 28, 2013

Just before Spring ends…let’s talk about Fall!  October 2013 is "Visit Your Local Bead Shop" month and Bead Style Magazine is getting ready to celebrate!  They are asking the shops to help show off the beautiful jewelry created by their staff and customers.  And Bead Bistro is excited to participate!  We have awesome and extremely talented patrons!  See below for details.

Just email us your entry (up to two entries) as a JPEG photo at info@bead-bistro.com.  Include the name of the designer, you!, and we will forward it on to the editors of Bead Style Magazine.  Images should be clear, uncluttered, and close up so details can be seen.

Bead Style Magazine will post entries on BeadStylemag.com and ask you to vote for your favorites.  Then, they will publish the two highest vote-getters -- plus an editors' pick -- in the November 2013 issue of Bead Style Magazine.  The issue hits mailboxes and newsstands in early October -- just in time to kick off the fun!

Important Dates:

  • July 5:  Deadline to submit jewelry images

  • July 12:  Voting Begins!!

  • July 21:  Voting closes.  Bead Style Magazine will ask the three winning designers to mail them their jewelry to be photographed for the magazine along with a little biographical information.
